Xiaowei’s story
I am Xiao Wei. My father passed away when I was in third grade, and I have lived with my mother and older brother since then. My father's death made me feel insecure, and I became someone who avoided interactions with others and preferred to be alone. During middle school, a group of older brothers and sisters came into my class to lead life character education. I was also invited to join a jazz drum talent class, winter and summer camps, and a tutoring group. At first, I always sat in the corner by myself, observing others participating in activities, but every time, one or two of the older brothers and sisters would主动 come and interact with me. Slowly, I became more cheerful through participating in these activities.
During one winter camp, I was invited to be the team leader. At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to handle it, but after participating, I discovered that I could actively get to know others. Through each activity, I learned how to interact with people and develop skills in communication and etiquette. By the time I was in the third year of middle school, my mentor specifically selected me to be a class officer, responsible for communication between the class and various parties. Through these activities, I started learning new things that I had never been exposed to before, such as presentations, sound control, acting, and hosting. This helped me realize that my abilities were far greater than I had imagined, and it also helped me build confidence.
In college, I chose to study "Social Work," and now I work as a social worker in a social welfare organization. I care for children who, like me, have lost their fathers or mothers at a young age, allowing me to share my life experience with them and accompany these children as they grow.
